Southeast Alaskan saltwaterfront custom built home faces a rock beach (22' tide variance )and overlooks breath-taking glacier-topped Chilkat Mountains 3 miles across inlet. Adjacent to a year round stream. Wildlife and marine life (moose, whales, sea lions, otters, seals, bald eagles) are visible seasonally. Also, 15 acres forest: a 14' seasideyurt for two: a 'meditation' building: small screen house. World class hiking, biking, kayaking, and boating out-the-door. 42 miles from Canadian border. 250 miles to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. 60 miles south by ferry to Juneau. Friendly town & neighbors or opportunity to remain in quiet isolation. Wild salmon, halibut & crab available.
Possible drawbacks: home located 100 m from car parking with 64 stairs (wide and gradual) down to house. Trails & beach could difficult for the unsteady of foot. Can be rainy but always beautiful.
Leave the house unlocked, walk on the road at night: crime free community.
Haines is an extraordinary vacation destination for kids and adults. We have a mountain hike out our back door.
The town is 2400 people but swells in the summer with outdoor adventure tourists. Stunning mountain views in all directions. Check out www.Hainesak.com

Family of 2 Adults 1 Dog |
My reason for seeking an exhange in Seattle anytime is to spend time with my niece and her two children who moved to Seattle last year. I would prefer a location in the vicinity of Queen Anne, where they reside. My needs are simple! I would love to bring my dog, a gentle and well-behaved female.
I job share as Co-Director of Hospice of Haines and my job is flexible enough to leave. My husband is a commercial Salmon fisherman and he is away most of the summer which allows us to offer our home. There is a beautiful 'meditation' building (for small gatherings, weddings and ceremonies) A 14' pacific yurt, on the beach is also available. We offer camping retreats every summer. |
