Enjoy the comforts of home, including 2 cats, plenty of plants, and a cosy enclosed backyard full of perennials & a BBQ!
This character home is in an older, mixed neighbourhood (a lot of neat little Polish shops) with great neighbours and community spirit. It is walking distance (2-3 blocks) from all amenities, including the Ivor Wynn stadium (home of the Hamilton Tiger Cats [http:/ / www.ticats.ca/ ] - football) and the bus stop for access to the Downtown core (~ 7 minutes by bus - faster by bike!).
Hamilton downtown offers an excellent farmers market, library, the Jackson Square shopping mall (includes a movie theatre), Hamilton Place [http:/ / www.hecfi.on.ca/ hamiltonplace/ default.asp] for arts & theatre, the Copps Coliseum [http:/ / www.hecfi.on.ca/ coppscoliseum/ ] (a bit of everything, including the circus at times!!), and an assortment of pubs and fine dining (e.g. Hess Village, Augusta St., etc.).
Surrounded by a network of harbour front and escarpment walking, blading, and biking trails, and at least 12 waterfalls, Hamilton [http:/ / www.myhamilton.ca/ myhamilton/ ] has a bit of everything for everyone. For those inclined towards more metropolitan-scale living & entertainment, Toronto [http:/ / www.toronto.ca/ ] (the capitol of Ontario) can be reached in under an hour by either car or public bus / train through Hamilton GO Transit [http:/ / www.gotransit.com/ ].
The house is eclectically furnished, including a queen-sized bed and two twin-sized futton-based beds/ couches. It has a full stereo system, including VHS, DVD, CD, tape, and record playing capabilities and 2 computers with unlimited internet access. The TV is not equipped with cable/ dish/ etc. but provides access to five freely available channels, including TVO & CBC.
Experience Hamilton as a true citizen of 'The Hammer'. Dundas, Ancaster, and places conceivably available on 'The Mountain' are poor imitations of the historical 'real thing', though great for quaint day trips :O) !
P.S. The mid-summer availability is due to renovations that are planned to start in early May: the date isn't carved in stone in case their are those who like to live in the chaos created by renovations or perhaps even 'lend a hand' .. lol.
P.P.S. More photos coming soon - I purchased a new camera :O)

Family of 1 Adult 2 Cats |
Greetings fellow home exchange enthusiast(s)!
I have just finished graduate studies in support of achieving my Masters in the Civil/Environmental field of engineering, primarily interested in alternative energy that can be generated at the homeowner-scale in an urban area.
As the rat-race of capitolist-based, consumer-driven life has reclaimed me, I am hoping to re-establish a work / life balance by swapping house with someone during the work week. I currently live in Hamilton but work in Toronto: perhaps there is someone out there living in Toronto but working in Hamilton seeking the same?
I live with my two cats in a family-sized home and would really like to have the opportunity to reduce my commuting while knowning that Blue, Simba, and the house plants are OK in my absence.
I am an avid 'true' camper, including canoe portaging and the like. I also bike, roller-blade, row, sail, and ski. I play classical piano, house & garden plant, and read almost anything, but primarily non-fiction in support of home renovation and gardening. I give myself the ocassional reading holiday by indulging in Dean Koontz and Steven King.
Having had the opportunity to travel in the past, I truly believe that my location in Hamilton really offers the 'true' Hamilton experience as opposed to the non-descript urban sprawl experience on the outskirts that could be attributed to 'anywhere at anytime'. So, if you are looking to experience the historic 'Steel Town' this is your location of choice. |
